Cars I've Owned
1981 Buick Skylark Limited (July 2003-November 2007 RIP)

One beautiful Tuesday night in June, I was over at my Uncle Bob's place fixing his computer. As I arrived just after supper, I noticed this little Blue Skylark sitting on the street with a 'For Sale' sign in it. Paid it no more attention to it and went inside. Upon finishing my uncle's computer as I left his house, I wonder over to the Skylark, looked it over, and checked it out. Nice little Car I thought, but figured the owners would want a fortune for it as it is in BEAUTIFUL shape. After standing and aw'ing, I decided to leave as I thought to myself, 'Why would I need another Car??, the Parisienne is still a decent car'.

That next night on Wednesday, I was involved in an accident with my Parisienne and unfortunately it was written off. Did $4900 damage to it. (Pics of crash in Story of Parisienne Section). A kid driving, first clipped my front passenger corner and then processed in hitting me a second time on the side sending my car down the median where I hit a tree. Ended up snapping the tree in half and came to a rest on the other side of the road. It was very stormy that night.

So the next day, I started looking thru the AutoTrader looking for something decent to replace the beater. I even circled a 5L mustang, which I thought would make a fine winter beater. :) My dad and uncle were talking and my uncle brought up the Skylark that his neighbors were trying to sell. My dad and I went down on Friday, went over it with a fine toothed comb, and then we wheel'd & dealed with the owner and bought it. The car only needed Wiper Blades and a Taillight bulb to pass Safety.

So now I have this snappy little v6, front-wheel drive, 81 Skylark. It's a great riding car, with the exception of the AM Radio, that'll be gone shortly. The interior is a nice navy blue and is really comfortable. I love it!!!, and BOY!! is it great on GAS!! (comparing to 400sbc in my nova).

I've had to do some small minor repairs to the car, but all in all, I broke even with my AutoPac settlement from the Parisienne.

I really hate to use this as my Everyday-WinterBeater car as this is what my Parisienne looked like when I bought it in '96. The winters are very hard on cars here. (sigh) ...and well I kinda drove the Parisienne hard, it was a good car!.

November 2007, the Skylark sadly died ... just as winter was starting. The ol' transmission gave out. There were many things starting to go on the car and I was hoping to get another winter out of it. The car just wasn't worth putting alot of money into for repairs as it's had a bit of a hard life. The car was starting to show some rust here and there, especially in the drivers rear after the accident when it was rear-ended in 2005.

I hated working on that FWD setup. It was just a bitch to do any kind of work or repair on it. It started to need alot, a new steering rack (the power steering was REALLY starting to leak alot) and the transmission had been slipping for some time. The cracked windsheild was annoying! and the car wasn't the greatest for heat, even after a new waterpump & thermostat. It basely just provided you with a shelter from the wind on those cold, COLD days. The car didn't like the cold weather too much. If you didn't let it warm up for over 10 mins, it would stall when making a right turn, and eventually when making a left turn too in the last days. Oil light would come on when you turn left (shrug). Sigh, the poor car ... :(

Sold it for Parts in Summer of 2008 for $150. It was a decent car!
