400 Small Block Swap - Page 8

WOO-HOO!!, the 350 is out. Here I am cleaning up the headers as I was getting them cleaned up and ready to paint. Also spent some time to clean up the engine bay again too ...

Pushed the car outside as I begin to unbolt the jack from the engine and tranny.

Ended up putting 19 coats of High-Heat paint on the headers hoping that they will stay black for sometime. Also painted the pulleys and brackets!

Back to the motor, pulled off the tranny, had a moment of silence for the 350 and back to cleaning parts for the 400. I also reused the valve covers from the 350 as they were in nicer shape.

I took a week off of work during the 3rd week of April to do the engine swap. I wanted to have the 400 in by the weekend, so noone would think anything, cause if my car was off the road for any period of time, it might start rumours. Keep it mind here, only 4 people knew of this motor.

On Thursday, I was out in Selkirk by myself getting ready to drop the motor into the car. One slight problem, I had no help around. Kelly was busy, even then wouldn't be able to help much cause of his hands and Glenn was still at work for another 2 hours.

So, I thought I'd try and do it myself.

Hooked the 400 up to the jack, bolted up the tranny and installed the combo into the car.

Didn't get much of a chance to take pictures as I was dropping the motor in, but I got a few .... and here's Glenn who arrived just in time for a photo-op. Little-late Glenn, motor's in.

Got the tranny all bolted up to the crossmember, just putting back the driveshaft. Apparently this is any important piece and can only go in one way.
Also picked up a timing cover for the balancer to hide the look of the 400 balancer as it is different from a 350 :).
